Sending Love & Sympathy – Masking Tape Technique in Action

In my last blog post (which embarrassingly was August 6th), I shared with you a card that I got at Convention 2014 in a swap that featured a technique called “Masking Tape.”  Earlier that same day my husband received the sad news that  the mother of one of his good friends had died the night before.  I knew I wanted to make Ricky and Debbie a sympathy card and thought that both the technique and the stamp set featured in my August 6th post would be perfect.

Now, I have to confess that I had never tried the Masking Tape technique and it was not as easy as my last blog post may have led you to believe (or maybe I’m just masking tape challenged).  After several trial runs, I finally found a method that worked for me.

DSC06761

DSC06763

My tips for this technique:  (1) use masking tape that is 1/2 to 3/4″ wide (I used 1″ wide tape and it is almost too wide); (2) if you have the juicier foam ink pads, “stamp off” on scratch paper once to reduce the amount of ink that will transfer from the tape to your cardstock.

In addition to the Lovely As A Tree stamp set, I used the Love & Sympathy stamp set for the greeting and on the inside of the card.  I also used Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop up the top matted layer from the card base.

If you would like to give this card a try, here are the materials and products you will need with easy links for ordering:

Crumb Cake Cardstock
Soft Suede Cardstock
Whisper White Cardstock
Pear Pizzazz Classic Stampin’ Pad
Soft Sky Classic Stampin’ Pad
Soft Suede Classic Stampin’ Pad
Sponge Dauber
Memento Tuxedo Black Ink Pad
Extra-Large Oval Punch
StazOn Black Ink (trees)
Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder (trees)
Heat Tool
Lovely As A Tree stamp set (clear-mount) (wood-mount)
Love & Sympathy stamp set (clear-mount) (wood-mount)
Snail Adhesive
Stampin’ Dimensionals
Masking or Painters Tape (non-Stampin’ Up! product)

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you will come back again to see what else I have to share with you.  Until then, I hope you leave here inspired to put stamps to ink to paper.

Stamp on my friends,
Linda

Introducing … Technique Time!

Products&TechniquesI am going to try sharing something a little new with you all today — so aren’t you glad you decided to drop by today?!

There are so many amazing Stampin’ Up! products and some pretty incredible “say what” techniques out there on how you can get that ink onto paper and end up with a spectacular piece of ART.

While swapping at Convention this year I managed to get my hands on some technique cards that just simply took my breath away and so I thought I would start with my first Products & Techniques post to help us both think outside the creative box.

Before I get started, can you take a guess as to the name of the stamp set that has been the longest selling in Stampin’ Up!’s Annual Catalog?  Wait for it … if you guessed Lovely As A Tree then you would be correct!  I have this stamp set in my collection with a copyright date on the wood blocks that reads 2001.  (My fingers are crossed that it stays around for many more years to come!)

Coincidentally the technique swap I am going to share with you today uses Lovely As A Tree — and the technique used is called “Masking Tape.”

So just what is the “Masking Tape” technique?

When Terri created this card she started off with a 5″ x 3.75″ piece of Whisper White cardstock.  She tore off a strip of masking tape and laid it sticky side down across a Pear Pizzazz Classic Stampin’ Pad and rubbed it slightly with her finger to pick up some of the ink, removed the strip from the pad and then laid it across the lower part of the cardstock and rubbed with her finger to transfer the ink which created the grass.  She repeated this step with a Marina Mist Classic Stampin’ Pad and laid the strip across the upper part of the cardstock to create the sky.  Then she stamped the trees with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and double matted the stamped image with Basic Black cardstock and Marina Mist cardstock.

Sounds pretty simple, right, but the look is spectacular!  You could add extra “pizzazz” to your stamped trees by sprinkling on some Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder and then rev up a Heat Tool to give the trees some texture.

I can’t wait for the weekend to roll back around so that I can try this technique myself.  Now, if I can just remember where I put all of that extra painter’s tape …

If you are one of the half dozen or so people on the face of the planet who doesn’t already have Lovely As A Tree in their stamp collection, you can order yours by clicking on the links below (oh, and you can see / order the other products used in this card by clicking any of the links above too)!

Well, I was going to try and share two techniques with you but I think I will start and stop with just the one for today.  The others are also pretty spectacular so you can bet that I will be sharing them with you real soon.

Thanks for stopping by.  Again, I hope you leave here inspired to put stamps (or tape) to ink to paper.  Until next time, stamp on my friends,

Linda

Kinda Eclectic & Stamps 101

Hello once again and welcome back to my blog.  Today I am sharing with you four cards — one that was a Make & Take project (that I stamped while at Convention) and three that I got by swapping cards with other demonstrators.  The one thing they all have in common is that they use one of the new stamp sets from the 2014-2015 Annual Catalog — Kinda Eclectic — which was one of the stamp sets we received in our convention bags.

By the way, did you know that Stampin’ Up! makes all their stamps themselves?

Stamps

Our stamps feature exclusively designed artwork deeply etched into rubber.  With hundreds of styles for every occasion, every taste and every creative mood you’re sure to find something you’ll love.  What’s more, we’ve grouped our stamps into sets for easy coordination!

Versatility Meets Creativity

Our stamps offer you so many choices:

Wood-Mount or Clear-Mount

Our stamps now come in two different styles: our traditional wood-mount and the sleek clear-mount option.  With clear-mount rubber stamps, you’ll enjoy the same high-quality rubber and foam you’ve grown to love on our wood-mount stamps.  But repositionable clear-mount stamps helps you save on space and mix-and-match your images on any clear block.  (Clear-mount blocks are sold separately.)

Meet Photopolymer Stamps

Enjoy a select grouping of stamp designs in top-quality photopolymer, too.  It’s completely clear stamping!  It’s just what you need for perfect placement every time.  Our top-quality photopolymer has just enough give to create a perfectly stamped image.  They’re durable, and they stick amazingly well to our clear blocks.

Rollin’ with Our Wheels

Our Stampin’ Around wheels combine high-quality rubber and exclusive artwork in a wheel!  They let you create continuous patterns for backgrounds, pages and more.  They also coordinate with many of our stamp sets, so you can use them together for awesome coordination.  Plus, our builder wheels let you build your wheel any way you’d like.  Stack three, two or even one! Stampin’ Around wheels come ready to snap into a handle for easy creativity.

Acrylic Blocks

Our variety of clear-mount blocks offer you all the sizes you need.  Made from high-quality, sturdy acrylic, these blocks give you the versatility to stamp one image or to create a collage of images or words to meet your creativity needs.  Each block is etched with a letter for easy identification and all four sides of the block are grooved, making it easy to grip as you stamp.

Putting Your Stamps Together

Our stamp sets are die cut to make it fast and easy to start stamping, but you still get to personalise your stamps by placing the rubber however you’d like on the wood or clear block.

Well there you go — everything you wanted to know about stamps but were too afraid to ask!

Thanks again for stopping by and I hope you leave inspired to put stamps to ink to paper.  Until next time, stamp on my friends,

Linda

More Blendabilities Unleashed

SU BlendabilitiesIn my prior post (here) on the newest must have color tools available from Stampin’ Up! — their alcohol ink markers called Blendabilities — I made mention that the remaining six color assortments would be released soon.

A “Work of Art” Explosion

Earlier this year Stampin’ Up! held a Catalog Launch Party for their demonstrators.  Unfortunately I was not able to attend and I missed out on a whole lot of fun.

One of the giveaways at the party was a new stamp set — Work of Art.

Work of Art

As you can imagine, there were a LOT of swaps at Convention using this stamp set and I was blown away with the beauty and variety of the cards made using this one stamp set and I thought I would share them with you all today.

3-D Convention Swaps

The are a variety of items that are swapped at Convention each year — the most common are full cards or card fronts, but you will also see people wanting to swap scrapbook pages and three-dimensional (3-D) items.

I am fortunate to have some really terrific uplines (and uplines of uplines) who give their members little “thank you” gifts each year.  They are usually filled with candies or Stampin’ Up! products and are always greatly anticipated.  Amy Storrie and Jann McCollom are part of my upline and below are the gifts I received from them this year.
