It’s Time to Deck the Halls with Banners

With less than three weeks left before Christmas it has come to my attention that I do not have enough cards on hand to fulfill my holiday card list needs.  So last night I put my design thinking cap on and used the Holiday Catalog samples as inspiration in an attempt to come up with an easy to reproduce card that I could make in multiples to get me across the finish line.

Below is the card that I ended up creating; however, for mailing purposes I likely will eliminate the ribbon feature to keep postage at a reasonable price.

  • The card front piece of Merry Little Christmas DSP is attached to the Basic Black cardstock with snail and is attached to the Whisper White Thick cardstock base with snail.
  • The Merry Music Specialty DSP banner is attached to card front with dimenionals.
  • I cut a small Metallic Foil Doily in half and attached with snail to the back of the Whisper White banner.
  • I looped the ribbon in the back and attached with double sided tape (non-Stampin’ Up! item).
  • The Whisper White banner is attached to the card front with dimensionals.
  • I created the tail on the DSP banner with the Banner Triple Punch.
  • I created the tail on the Whisper White banner by marking the bottom center on the back side and then again 1/2″ up from the same mark.  I carefully folded the two ends over to meet (but did not bend or crease the cardstock) and used my paper snips to cut diagonally from the 1/2″ center mark down to the bottom corner.

Measurements:

  • Whisper White banner = 2.75″ x 4.25″ (you should be able to get 8 banners out of an 8.50″ x 11″ piece of cardstock).
  • Merry Music DSP banner = 2″ x 6″.  Once you cut tail with the punch cut down to 5″ in length (be sure not to cut off your tail!).
  • Merry Moments DSP card front = 4″ x 5.25″
  • Basic Black card front is approximately 1/8″ larger on all sides than the Merry Moments DSP.

If you have any other questions regarding the design of this card, do not hesitate to contact me.

Good Tidings of Great Joy

I have a confession to make.  I am a hoarder of designer series paper.  So many of the papers that are offered by Stampin’ Up! are just so pretty that I hate to cut them up, much less stamp on them.  I have been trying to do better this year to use what I have in my projects since with the release of each new catalog there is bound to be something just a pretty for me to pick from.

Designer series paper can be used for more than just making a pretty background base for your cards or adding a strip here or there to fill in a white space.  You actually can stamp on it, which I have done with today’s card.  And here it is:

The Good Tidings stamp set that I used on today’s card is a two-step stamp set.  This means that it takes two different stamps to complete your image.  One will be your bottom stamp which usually has no detail and the other will be the top which will have detail.  So that you do not waste your DSP, I would recommend you practice two-step stamping with this set on some scrap paper until you get a feel for how the stamps layer and the best color combinations to use.

Here are the Stampin’ Up! products that I used in the design of today’s card which can quickly be added to your shopping cart by clicking on the thumbnails below:

Tips & Trips:

  • When stamping my holly leaves, I used Old Olive for the bottom stamp and Garden Green for the top stamp.  (Don’t bother stamping the stems as they will not show.)
  • When stamping the holly berries, I used Real Red for the bottom stamp and Cherry Cobbler for the top stamp.
  • The sentiment on the front is attached with dimensionals.
  • The card front is attached to the card base with dimensionals.
  • I added Wink of Stella to the holly leaves and berries after the card was fully assembled.

If you have any other questions regarding the design elements of this card, do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you for stopping by today.  I hope you leave here inspired to put stamps to ink to paper.  Until next time, stamp on my friends.

Every Good Wish in a Coffee Cup

A little know fact about me – I didn’t drink coffee before I met my now husband five years ago.  He took me to Dunn’s Brothers after our first dinner date and introduced me to the tantalizing flavor of a Vanilla Caramel Latte.  Today I would not say that I am a daily coffee drinker – it is a very rare occasion that I even enjoy a cup of joe –  but this is one of the lines of beverages that my husband offers as a broker so it is part of my every day in some form or fashion.

When the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog was released and included an entire product suite incorporating coffee cups, I immediately added it to my wish list.  However, if you ever saw my wish list you would realize it was a virtual lost forest among the trees item.  Therefore, I was over the moon when the Coffee Cups framelits dies were part of the recent Online Extravaganza so of course I ordered them.

I wanted to use these framelits in the design of today’s project that I wanted to be Christmas-themed, but I did not have the coordinating stamp sets from both the Annual Catalog and the Holiday Catalog.  I had ordered one of the holiday stamps sets that were also part of the Online Extravaganza and an idea struck.  Here is the result:

Now if I hadn’t told you that this stamp set was not intended to be used with these framelits would you have been able to tell?  And what goes better with coffee than endless pastries and cookies?  Can you say MFEO (made for each other)?

Here are the Stampin’ Up! products that I used in the design of this card which can quickly be added to your shopping cart by clicking on the thumbnails below:

NoteThe Gold Ribbon is on the Year-End Sales Event list.  I have contacted my vendor about the link not showing the sales price, which is $4.00.

Here are some tips and tricks for this card design:

  • Stamp the “peace love and joy” stamp in Real Red on a piece of the Merry Music Specialty DSP (be sure that you stamp it up high enough to give you room to cut it out with the framelit).  (NOTE:  This stamp does not give a perfect impression.  I used a Blender Pen and the lid of my Real Red ink pad and carefully colored in the lighter areas to add emphasis to the words in the stamp.)
  • Using the largest coffee cup die, cut out the stamped greeting as well as a cup and a lid from Very Vanilla cardstock.
  • Using the same coffee cup die, flip over the stamped piece and mark about 1/8″ from the top and bottom and trim off with paper snips.  Be sure to use the framelit as a pattern so that you retain the cup’s curve at the bottom and maintain a straight cut at the top.
  • Using snail, attached the stamped piece to the front of the Very Vanilla cup offsetting at the bottom so that the Very Vanilla shows underneath the stamped piece of DSP.
  • Attach the lid to the top of the cup (I used liquid glue; however, be careful as your ink may smear).  Set aside.
  • Take one of the large Metallic Foil Doilies and cut it in half.  Attach it the to back of the 1.00″ x 4.00″ strip of Christmas Around the World DSP.  Attach strip to front of larger piece of Christmas Around the World DSP (approximately 4.00″ x 5.25″) that has been attached to a Real Red cardstock mat (1/8 larger on each side).
  • Add your ribbon/bow.
  • Attached panel to card base using dimensionals.
  • Attach coffee cup to card front using dimensionals.

If you have any other questions regarding the design of this card or how you can order these products to make a card just like this one for yourself, do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for stopping by today.  I h0pe you leave here inspired to put stamps to ink to paper.  Until next time, stamp on my friends.

A Storage Solution for My Stampin’ Blends

I love my Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers by Stampin’ Up!  My dilemma is that they come individually wrapped in thin plastic envelopes and at present a case for storing your entire collection is not available.  Of course, I could have gone to a local arts & crafts store and purchased a really expensive marker storage system or just went ahead and used the one I had previously purchased from Stamp N Storage when I previously purchased the earlier Blendabilities but (1) I did not want to spend money at a craft store that I would rather spend on Stampin’ Up! products and (2) the marker unit I have is not conveniently located next to my work area and so they would not be “handy” when needed.

I saw a post from a fellow demonstrator who converted an empty Paper Pumpkin kit box into a storage box for her Blends and after a couple of attempts to reproduce one for myself I finally got the scoring correct for the insert to keep the markers neatly in place.  First I will show you photos of my storage box and then explain how you can reproduce one for yourself:

First, if you do not want the orange color to be on the outside of your box, unfold the box and fold it over inside out so that the orange is on the side of the box.

You will need 12 x 12 cardstock to create your box dividers.  You will need three (3) pieces cut to 12 x 6.

If you have a Simply Scored Scoring Tool, you will score each piece of 12 x 6 cardstock at 1.00″,  2.00″, 2.75″, 3.75″, 4.75″, 5.5o”, 6.50″, 7.50″, 8.25″, 9.25″, 10.25″ and 11.00″.  Your “hills” will be 1.00″ and your “valleys” will be .75″.  The 1.00″ sections will fold together and would be glued together to create your section divider.  See the below pictures for an example:

If you follow these scoring measurements and use the 12 x 6 cardstock, three (3) of these dividers joined together fit perfectly into the box.  To secure them into the box I put down three strips of Tear & Tape on the inside bottom and two strips on the first 1.00″ side of the divider to secure it to the side of the box.  I then carefully pressed the piece into the box making sure that the piece was flat with the side and bottom before pressing into the tape.  (You will notice that you have one incomplete 1.00″ tab at the end of each strip.  I recommend piecing onto that incomplete tab and use liquid glue to attach next section to the incomplete tab.)

I used some retired designer series paper to decorate my box and cut up one of my Blends brochures for the outside and the inside labeling.  Here are the other Stampin’ Up! products that I used that you can quickly add to your shopping cart if you want to make some organizers for yourself – just click on the thumbnails:

Lovely Wishes for a Friend

Today’s project was made with a friend in mind – it will actually go in the mail to her tomorrow.  I used three stamp sets, but only two are used on the outside of the card (I used You’ve Got This on the inside for the verse).  The other two sets are new and will be available starting January 3, 2018.  I previously used one of the sets (Amazing You) on a prior project and will be one of the stamps sets you can earn for FREE as part of  Sale-A-Bration.  The other stamp set is Lovely Wishes and this set will appear in the Occasions Catalog.

Without further ado, here is my very simple, but I hope meaningful, card for my friend:

I hope it brings her a little bit of happiness as she continues to fight cancer.

I used my Stampin’ Blends to color in the flowers and stems (so much fun!) and stamped and cut out the words and attached with dimensionals to the card front for impact.  I sponged around the label and card front lightly with a sponge dauber.

Here are the Stampin’ Up! products that I used in the design of this card which can quickly be added to your shopping cart by clicking on the thumbnails below:

And here are the two stamp sets that will be available after January 3, 2o18:

If you have any other questions regarding the design of this card do not hesitate to ask.

As promised, below are thumbnails to the discounted and retiring products that are included in the Year-End Sales Event.  Remember that while this event runs through January 2, 2018, with the exception of stamp sets, these products are available only while supplies last!

Year-End Discounted:

Year-End Retiring Favorites:

This is your last chance to purchase these items.  Once they are sold out or the event ends, they are gone for good.

For your convenience I have added these two links to the right margin of my blog.  Simply scroll down a little and click on which category you want to start with (you’re welcome!).

Thank you for stopping by today.  I hope you leave here inspired to put stamps to ink to paper.  Until  next time, stamp on my friends.

A Triangle Treat Box Christmas Tree

I have been in a bit of a funk the last few days.  My much anticipated new job ended up being one of those online job scams, but I was very lucky that my gut was telling me something wasn’t right and I did further due diligence which revealed the truth and I thus avoided becoming their next victim.  It is such a shame that there are these type of people in the world.  Imagine what they could accomplish if they applied their efforts towards honest endeavors.

Thanks to a demonstrator friend, Connie Stewart, I was inspired by her Facebook Live session yesterday where she featured triangular gift/treat boxes.  Her boxes were an elf hat and a Santa hat, both of which were super duper cute.  But here is what came to mind when I sat down to create one of these for myself:

I have to admit it took me many hours to cut out the pine branches (so many that I lost count) but I think the end result was well worth the effort.  I finished up with the “ornaments” and “tinsel” today.

This box was so much fun to make, I am going to definitely make more, including the elf and Santa hats!

Here are the Stampin’ Up! products used in the design of this project which can quickly be added to your shopping cart by clicking on the thumbnails below:

I have not added any stamping elements to this project.  In her video Connie stamped a tag and hinged it to the side.  I still may do this, but I just need to decide which stamp set I want to use.

To make one of these projects, you will need a piece of cardstock that measures 4.25″ x 11.00″ and score at 5.50″.

On the 4.25″ sides, make a “tic” mark at 2-1/8″ (this will be the center).  Using your Stampin’ Trimmer, line up one of the tic marks with the cutting groove and move your piece of cardstock diagonally until the center score line is also lined up with the cutting groove, then score; repeat until your piece of cardstock is scored like the below:

Fold on all four score lines and burnish with your bone folder.  You then squeeze the sides together.  You will want to put a strong adhesive on the outer edges on the inside of the flaps that will be on the top.  Before you adhere the pieces, this is what you should see:

If you are going to make something other than a Christmas Tree (or if you are making a tree and don’t want to bother with all of the pine branches, you can run one side through your Big Shot with your choice of textured embossing folder.  Just make sure that you make those flaps the ones that go on the outside (top) when you close them up.

I used liquid glue to attached all of the pine branches so that I could move them if necessary before they set, starting at the bottom and working my way up.  Everything else is attached to the tree with mini glue dots.

There will be an opening at the top of the triangle which you can gently squeeze to pop open and drop small pieces of candy into your box.  If you are wanting to put something larger in there, i.e. a gift card, you will want to be sure to do so before you seal up both sides.  If you want to secure the opening you can use a small hand-held hole punch at the top and run some ribbon through the holes and tie a bow or use a longer piece of ribbon and hang it as an ornament on your tree.

The finished project measures 5.50″ x 4.25″.

If you have any other questions regarding this project, do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you for stopping by today.  I hope you leave here inspired to put stamps to ink to paper.  Until next time, stamp on my friends.

Oh Happy Day Card Kit & Amazing You

I purchased the Oh Happy Day Card Kit back during my pre-order period for the Annual Catalog (May 2017).  While the cards that the kit makes are “cute”, they really are not my style so after I opened the kit when I received it, I have pretty much forgotten that I had it until it fell over and spilled in my craft room today while I was moving stuff around.  Lucky accident?  Perhaps.

On a second glance I still was not too keen on the cards as they were designed, but I liked the elements that were included as part of the kit (the card bases and embellishments).  Rather than use the card bases to make a whole card, I cut them in half and now have two pieces of pretty card stock for each one intended which now doubles the number of cards I can make.  I just need to add my own card bases.

This got me to thinking about one of the stamp sets we received at OnStage in early November which will be part of the Sale-A-Bration items — Amazing You.  I wanted this to be my stamp set and began my design process from there.  Here is what I came up with:

I used the new Stampin’ Blends to color in the stamped flower on the white panel.  I love these new alcohol markers and how easy they are to blend.  The best thing about them is that they are sold separately so you can pick and choose what colors you want to buy and can easily replace them once you have used up all the ink in them (coloring with these is so much fun they could be addicting!).

Here is a close-up of the stamp set that will be available for FREE with a $50 purchase (before tax and shipping) January 3, 2018 – March 31, 2018.

Here are the Stampin’ Up! products that were used in the design of this card which can quickly be added to your shopping cart by clicking on the thumbnails below:
