Chalkboard Technique – My First Attempt

Another project I designed for my Artisan Design Team application was a card where I attempted my first “chalkboard” technique.  I’m not sure I should have included my first try at a technique with my submission but …

DSC03642

If I had a chance to do this one over, I would have used a different approach to get the chalkboard look (involves white craft stamp pad and sponge daubers).  The version of the technique I used here was using the Embossing Buddy to make the black card stock look chalky.  Didn’t turn out as I had hoped.  But as they say, practice makes perfect so you should expect to see me try this technique again soon – especially with all the new stamp sets that have chalky images.

Here are the supplies that I used to create this card:

Card stock:  Crumb Cake, Basic Black, Rose Red, Whisper White
Classic Stampin’ Pads:  Rose Red, Versa Mark
Stamp Sets:  Bloomin’ Marvelous, Itty Bitty Bits, Amazing Family, Oh, Hello
Tools:  Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack, ½” Circle Punch, Stampin’ Trimmer, Paper Snips, Craft Scissors, Bone Folder, Embossing Buddy, Heat Tool
Other Supplies:  Snail Adhesive, Mini Glue Dots, 2-Way Glue Pen, Rose Red Seam Binding Ribbon, Natural Composition Specialty Designer Series Paper, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Water Color Pencil, Silver Soda Pop Tops, Ruler, Crumb Cake Medium Envelope

Have you tried this technique yet?  I’d like to see what you have designed if you would care to share them with me!

Thanks again for stopping by.  I hope you had a great weekend.

Until next time, stamp on my friends,
Linda

Another Artisian Design Team Project

My Saturday didn’t work out as I had planned – I was scheduled to attend a meeting with the Stamped With Joy group (Amy Storrie), but a migraine sidetracked my day.  I’m sure I missed all kinds of fun and can’t wait to see the projects posted by members of our group.

I wanted to still share with you a project I designed and since I have yet to show you all 10 of the projects I submitted with my Artisan Design Team application, I thought I would share this card with you:

DSC03638

This was the first project that I designed and was by far my favorite of the five cards I submitted.  Here are the supplies that I used:

Card stock:  Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Very Vanilla, Summer Starfruit
Classic Stampin’ Pads:  Soft Suede, Pink Pirouette, Primrose Petals
Stamp Sets:  Bloomin’ Marvelous, Itty Bitty Bits, Vintage Verses
Tools:  Big Shot, Honeycomb Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack, Ticket Duo Builder Punch, Bitty Butterfly Punch, Stampin’ Trimmer, Paper Snips, Craft Scissors, Bone Folder
Other Supplies:  Stampin’ Dimensionals, Snail Adhesive, Mini Glue Dots, Pink Pirouette Two-Tone Ribbon, White Lace Paper Doilies, Tea for Two Designer Series Paper, Designer Builder Brads, Jewels Basic Pearls, Very Vanilla Medium Envelope

Speaking of the day not going as I had planned, my guy Phil Mickelson had a horrid day on the golf course today and absent some gigantic miracle he has no chance to win tomorrow.  I guess it’s a good thing that I have Time Warner Cable and wasn’t able to see his poor performance play out on CBS!

More projects will be coming soon.  Thank you for stopping by my blog.  Come back again and see what else I have to share with you.

Until next time, stamp on my friends,
Linda

Back In Business & A Convention Swap Card

Back in Business:

I had a near panic attack late last night after I blew up my blog trying to add some plugins to track the number of visitors.  Thanks to the fantabulous support team at Dreamhost I was back online bright and early this morning.  {Whew!}

Dreamhost

Thank you Anthony S. and the entire Dreamhost team.  If you are thinking of starting your own blog and aren’t sure who you should select to host it for you, I highly recommend Dreamhost!

A Convention Swap Card:

I wanted to share with you another card I designed for the general swap (a/k/a “swapping frenzy”) that is a big part of the Stampin’ Up! Convention experience.

DSC03716

Now close your eyes and imagine 5,800 or so women (and a few men too) lugging around bags, boxes and even specially made display aprons containing cards they have designed to “swap” with each other as a way to get new design and technique ideas and make new friends too.  “Are you swapping?”

Here are the supplies that I used in the design of this card:

Card stock:  Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Summer Starfruit
Classic Stampin’ Pads:  Summer Starfruit
Stamp Sets:  Label Love
Other Supplies:  Stampin’ Dimensionals, Snail Adhesive, Mini Glue Dots, Summer Starfruit Satin Stitched Ribbon, Jewels Basic Rhinestones, Afternoon Picnic Designer Series Paper
Tools:  Stampin’ Trimmer, Big Shot, Modern Mosaic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, 1-1/4” Square Punch, Artisan Label Punch, Bone Folder

Thanks for stopping by my blog today – and I apologize for the technical difficulties.  I hope you will come back soon.

Until next time, stamp on my friends,
Linda

This weekend is a big weekend for golf fans – The PGA (the last of the “Majors” for 2013) is in full swing at the Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, NY.  My favorite player – Phil Mickelson – had a rough start today but one can never count him out.  He came out of nowhere and won the British Open last month so my fingers are crossed.  (Go Phil!)  Can you name all four of the Majors golf tournaments?

With all the golf to watch, I should have ample time this weekend to stamp so keep an eye out for something spectacular!

Until next time, stamp on my friends,
Linda

Some happy news to share:  Those who are regular followers of my blog may recall that I had to say goodbye to my dear sweet Sebastian who passed away a little over a week ago.  I am happy to share the news that Gary and I adopted a dog from the Plano Animal Shelter on Saturday.  Introducing Rosie – a 6 year old Schipperke (skipper-key).

Rosie 2

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schipperke

She fits right in – it’s as though she has always lived here.  The cats aren’t too happy to have her around – she likes to chase them much to their dismay.  It’s a bit eerie how some of her mannerisms are so much like Sebastian.  Gary and I are convinced that she’s the new vessel for his soul.

Thank you for visiting my blog.  I promise to share projects with you very soon!

Until next time, stamp on my friends,
Linda

New Products Announced at Convention Now Available!

LPHeader_thinlits_Demo_7.19.13[1]

One of the exciting new products that was announced at Convention is now available!  Introducing Thinlits Card Dies.

Shelli Gardner showcased these dies on Main Stage and I was simply blown away.  These amazing Thinlits Card Dies create your card that flips in just one step!!

There are some products you just have to see in action before you realize how much you need them, right? This is one of them!  These new card dies come with extra die pieces that have versatile designs, so you can use them on other projects, not just flip cards. (The Circle Card Thinlits Die comes with 10 total pieces; the Label Card Thinlits Die comes with nine total pieces.)  With the number of dies you’re getting, plus the die that creates the card itself, the price is a great value-especially to create an interactive card!

#Convention2013 – Demonstrator Resource Center

Stampin’ Up! was very creative this year when setting up the Display Boards in the Demonstrator Resource Center for 2013 Convention.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but since I take pictures of the entire board (instead of each individual card like some people do), when I downloaded the pictures to my laptop each evening I noticed that the boards spelled out various phrases.  Here are three such phrases, which just happen to be part of Stampin’ Up!’s trademark logo!

Convention 2013-003

I thought this was awesome when I put the pieces all together (I created this layout in My Digital Studio).  What’s really cool is that some of my own card designs are included on the boards!

I will have more to share with you tomorrow, including the latest updates on Stampin’ Up! promotions and new products coming soon.

Until next time, stamp on my friends,
Linda

#Convention2013 – Another Artisan Design Team Submission

It’s been a rough week since I attended Convention in Salt Lake City.  Upon my return home I discovered that my dear sweet Sebastian was very ill and unfortunately there wasn’t anything the doctors could do to make him better.

Sebastian - bomber 1

We said our last goodbyes on Friday and had a memorial service for him on Saturday.  There are some people who do not understand the sorrow I feel (“he’s just a dog”) but to me he was my “little man” and I will miss him terribly.

On a more pleasant note, I wanted to share with you another card I designed and submitted as part of my application for the Stampin’ Up! Artisan Design Team that was posted on one of the many Display Boards in the Demonstrator Resource Center during Convention.
